Oriflame Summer Internship

Yingying in China -Day 25: A peek at the products

My fourth week at Oriflame Shanghai is coming to an end and I can't believe how quickly the time has passed! My summer project has gone off to a flying start and I will be travelling this weekend with our MD and his team to Ningbo for a Leader's Meeting, where I single-handedly will be executing interviews with some of our top Leaders regarding one of Oriflame's online projects - in Chinese! I am super excited and happy to have been given so much freedom and responsibility, even though it is a bit nerve-racking...

In the meantime, let me introduce some of Oriflame's products to you! I participated in a product training session last week where I got familiarized with our product portfolio, and even bought some of them myself.

Two of our popular facial products: Optimals Oxygen Boost face mask that rejuvenates dull, polluted skin (perfect for China!) and Pure Nature face wash with Blueberry & Lavender extract that smells like a little whiff of heaven.

Above you can see many of our skin care brands, suited to different age groups.

When it comes to color cosmetics, there are plenty of different brands as well, such as Very Me (youth) and Giordani Gold (mature).

The Very Me products have a very youthful, fresh and playful design - my favorites are the eye shadows with the cute zipper covers.

... And finally, the products that I purchased for myself: our absolute bestseller Optimals Oxygen Hydra Boost Serum (leaves your skin feeling moisturized and fresh), Optimals Seeing is Believing Eye Cream (reduces puffiness and dark circles - works wonders!) and last but not least; our Studio Artist Concealer, my new best friend.

Now I'm heading off to an action-packed Friday night and an exciting weekend! God, I hope the business trip goes well... I'll keep you posted!

Anna in Russia - Day 14 - Helan går!

That's a wonderful thing about working in a Swedish company - no matter in which country and subsidiary you might be - the Swedish spirit and traditions are always present :) and I must admit, those are some great traditions! For example, the longest day and the shortest night of the year, otherwise known as Midsummer, was celebrated with Swedish songs, dances and food. Now that's what I call a real corporate culture... Glad sommar!

Yingying in China - Day 14: Focus group

Last week I got to listen in on a focus group discussion regarding usage and attitude towards facial care among the young, female, semi-selective segment in China. It was exciting, as we got to observe them through a two-way mirror, like in a CSI-episode. My main take-away from the session was that young Shanghainese girls are a very difficult group to impress: they are decisive in brand preferences, knowledgeable about skin care products and absolutely ruthless in their critique. A very insightful afternoon spent with our Product Manager Serena and Marketing Assistant Doris!

Yingying in China - Day 13: Monday morning

Good afternoon! I had an eventful weekend touring some of Shanghai's hot spots, including Tianzifang, a cozy but crowded art street packed with creative stores and exotic cafés. Saturday night was full of action as well, but let's keep that private for now... Having been here for almost three weeks now, I thought I would give you guys a tour of the office! We are located on Huang Hai Middle Road, which is a very central shopping street - equivalent of Drottninggatan in Stockholm. This is what it looks like:

Meeting rooms and the customer service department can be found on the 7th floor...

... along with some impressive ads...

... and brightly lit product displays that always gives you cravings!

The rest of the office is located on the 9th floor, consisting of open-plan offices and cubicles. Last week me and my sweet colleague Grace went to a flower store on our lunch break to buy flowers for our cubicles, so now I have a pretty orchid sitting on my desk! Last week was full of sales training where I learnt about our recriutment processes and products, some of which I have ordered. I'll show you them in a later post - now I have to run off for a farewell dinner at Lost Heaven!

Anna in Russia - Day 8

Hey there :)
It's been a little while since my last post, but the amazing city of Moscow and Oriflame are keeping me busy - and I enjoy it! Let's take a closer look at the past week ;)
My internship and work with the Oriflame Foundation and regional charity strategy has officially begun: research on the past and current activities, the history of the foundation and its execution across CIS & Baltics - these are only some of the tasks I've done so far and there are many more to come. Seeing all the pictures of children's happy faces after our company's help is the highest award, but I am certain we can do even more.
The wonderful atmosphere of Oriflame on my work desk makes the time at the office pleasant and motivating :)

In my spare time I enjoyed the amazing celebration and concert dedicated to the Day of Russia aka Russia's Birthday, which took place on the Red Square :) Thousands of people, celebrity singers and great music - a splendid start of my stay in Russia. Unbelievable experience of listening to life music performed by the starts I used to see on TV.. With Oriflame dreams do become true ;)

And of course the highlight of the week - the Oriflame Royal Ball, which opened its doors to all of the wonderful Leaders, who with their hard work and loyalty make the success of Oriflame possible. In the picture my colleagues and I (in blue - I <3 blue!) are ready to join the Ball and celebrate the 45th Birthday of Oriflame. Listening to the inspiring speeches by the CEO Magnus Brännström, VP of Russia Yuriy Mykhaylyuk an SVP and Head of CIS & Balics Mats Palmquist I could feel how important and valuable the commitment of our consultants and leaders is to us... after all, they are the driving force behind Oriflame :)
It takes a magical event with a special guest Totto Kutunio to make a great weekend and remind me of how awesome this internhsip is!

Yingying in China - Day 7: Sweden Day at Fudan University

Hi there! I have been in Shanghai for exactly one week now, and have had quite an exhilarating day. Project China arranged an event called "Sweden Day" at Fudan University this afternoon, which Oriflame sponsored with gift bags. It was an exhausting day with games, dancing and catching up with the team members of Project China, who I previously met during my first day at Oriflame when they visited our office for a company presentation. This is what it looked like:

Our Managing Director Pierre, Operations Director Jason and MD Assistant Mikaela each held interesting presentations about Oriflame China, its unique challenges and what sets it apart from other markets.

After the presentations, we got to try out some sample products and received goodie bags - that's how you know you're working for an awesome company!
As for today, this was the first thing we saw when we arrived at Fudan:

... the Swedes and Chinese students dancing around the Swedish Maypole! It was hilarious.

Me and my colleague Crystal hid under one of the tents, since the sun was blazing hot this afternoon and the heat was unbearable.

I met my friend Jacky, who is the Manager of China Week. We had an awesome time together, catching up and fooling people that we were siblings.

A fantastic, fun and relaxing afternoon! Thank you Project China!

Anna in Russia - Day 1&2

Hello there wonderful people :)

I'm Anna, the new Summer intern at the Moscow office of Oriflame. I invite you to follow me on the exciting Oriflame journey in Moscow, where I will be working with a CSR and charity. Hope you'll enjoy this journey as much as I will.

A sleepless night of traveling and I am finally in the capital of Russian Federation... gosh, it's huge and I already love it <3 ! After a comfy ride from Sheremetyevo, I was met by Oriflame's friendly HR people, who showed me around the office and introduced me to other employees. Afterwards my Oriflame colleagues made sure that all the 40kg of my luggage (long live dresses and high-heels!) were safely delivered to the apartment I am staying at. I live in a block of flats on the 7th floor, situated close to the Poklonnaya Mountain, one of the amazing sights of Moscow, which I already explored :)

I am super excited and looking forward to my first official work day at the office, but for now I am unpacking and making sure I look fresh after a long trip with my favourite Oxygen Boost creams from Oriflame :)

Yingying in China - Day 5: Gluttony

Publicerad 2012-06-10 10:33:27 i YingYing in China

My favorite thing about Shanghai - apart from the cheap shopping and the awesome nightlife - is the plethora of Continental and Asian cuisines. Whether you're craving traditional Italian pasta or spicy Sichuan food, you can be sure to find what you're looking for in any street corner. Below are two very different seafood dishes that illuminate the contrasting flavors of Shanghai's restaurants:
Grilled lobster with parmesan cheese risotto and spring vegetables from Brick, a Mediterranean restaurant and wine lounge on Sinan Road. The lobster is so fresh that it literally melts in your mouth.
Huge, cooked spicy fish on a backstreet restaurant that my colleagues took me to. The entire restaurant was steaming because of the spicy flavors of the dishes and all the patrons were sweating while they were eating - a very genuine Chinese eating experience.

This is my fifth day in Shanghai but it already feels like I've been here for two months! The city is so easy to feel at home in due to the Western lifestyle that permeates it; H&M and Starbucks can be found everywhere and the nightclubs have an overabundance of Western party animals. Being a Chinese-Swede myself, I feel that I can appreciate both aspects of the city: the noisy, unruly Chinese culture and the sophisticated, rule-abiding Western culture.

Yingying in China - Day 2: Shanghai calling

Hello everyone!I'm Yingying, the summer intern at Oriflame's Shanghai office. I will be blogging about my experiences during my 10 week stay here. Today was my first day at the office and it was packed with activities; joining a student delegation from SSE and KTH, lunch with my lovely colleague Mikaela, introduction to the office, meeting with the boss and thousands of presentations to read. The market in China is unique in terms of consumer behavior, especially in the area that I will be specializing in: online marketing. I'm looking forward to an exciting summer in my favorite city in the world!
